Northumberland has a rich tapestry of history from Vikings to Wizards and will prove an interesting day out.
It has a great variety of castles with one of the largest being Bamburgh Castle which was built in the 11th century and home to a succession of Kings from Henry VI to James 1.
It was the first castle in the world to fall to gunpowder in the war of the roses. It is currently the home of The Armstrong family where the Victorian inventor, William Armstrong lived and was famously known as the Magician of The North.
